On Saturday, October 24 from 10:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m., the Rutgers Undergraduate Women in Business of Rutgers University-Newark will host the 3rd Annual Characters Walk at the Newark Public Library, 5 Washington Street in downtown Newark.  The Characters Walk is a fundraiser in support of children’s literacy for the City of Newark and encourages members of Rutgers University–Newark, and residents of the City of Newark to come together to increase children’s free access to books and learning resources through The Newark Public Library.

In addition to the walk, the event will include a reading corner, face painting, various games, crafts, and special appearances by children’s storybook characters. The walk begins at 12:30. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed as a favorite storybook character or in other costumes. The walkers will join together for a short walk in the Washington Street area.

Library Director Wilma Grey remarked: “We are so grateful to the women of RUWIB for their leadership in fundraising and their recognition of the importance of children’s literacy.”

Suggested donations are $10 per adult walker and $5 per college student walker. All proceeds will benefit the Newark Public Library to purchase children’s books. Donations to the Library are tax–deductible.
