Jay Z and company held a press conference yesterday for a special announcement, regarding his acquisition of music streaming service, TIDAL. What many people were expecting is the “special” part to include word of a new album (a Jay/Bey LP?) being exclusively available to the platform. Instead, they got another shocker: Jay Z is only one of many owners.
Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Jack White, J.Cole, Nicki Minaj, Usher, Rihanna, Kanye West, Calvin Harris and Madonna, among others, are listed as owners.
Purchased for $56 million, and facing competition from Spotify, Google and other companies that will soon include Apple, Tidal will be fashioned as a home for high-fidelity audio and exclusive content.
