Yesterday, The Greater Newark Enterprises Corporation hosted their Annual Opportunities & Awards Breakfast.  The annual event is caters to small businesses and entrepreneurs to meet providers of business opportunities, resources and capital, with approximately 250 businesses in attendance.

The keynote address was given by Associate Vice President Technology and Enterprise Development at the New Jersey Innovation Institute at NJIT, Judith Sheft. Ms. Sheft is responsible for NJIT’s Office of Technology Development, creating programs focusing on patent creation, valuation, strategic use and protection of IP. She has economic development responsibilities for the university’s high technology business accelerator/incubator (EDC), the Procurement Technical Assistance Center and Health IT Connections Program funded by JPMorgan Chase. She is also an advisor to NJIT’s Murray Women’s Center, on the Board of Einstein’s Alley and the NJ Entrepreneur’s Network and is a member of the NJ – Israel Commission.

This year’s honorees were Tara Williams-Harrington, Managing Director at Bricks 4 Kidz, Tomas Porturas, VP, Sr.  Community Development Officer at Wells Fargo, and Miguel Fuentes, Owner of Maya Copan.
