Friday night was special.  Not because of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  And not because it signaled the weekend we long for…every week.  Maurice Chestnut produced and choreographed an incredible dance performance at Newark Symphony Hall called Dance Therapy.  This wasn’t simply a night of entertainment.  With over 300 people in attendance, this was a night for legacy.  

Dance Therapy was inspired by, and dedicated to the life of Nazerah Bugg, Maurice Chestnut’s niece, who was murdered in a shooting last September.  Nazerah was special.  Maurice spoke to the audience about the parallels he saw between her and her love for basketball and his own experiences growing up as a tap dancer.  A portion of the proceeds from the event went to the Nazerah’s Hoop Dreams Foundation.

Dance Therapy featured performers from all over New Jersey.  Most of the dancers trained with the New Jersey Youth Ensemble.  Here are pictures from the night…
