Yesterday, the City of Newark hosted the Inaugural Recycling Summit at Rutgers University-Newark’s Paul Robeson Center. At the summit, workshops and discussion groups were conducted to unite residents, businesses, non-profits, and government agencies, to seek solutions, share ideas and best practices, and create collaborations to reduce waste and increase recycling in the City of Newark, and make recommendations on steps to do so.

Federal Environmental Protection Agency Region II Office of Resource Conservation Director of Clean Air and Sustainability John Filippelli delivered the keynote address.  The City of Newark has made a commitment to reduce waste and increase recycling by 70% by 2020.  The Recycling Summit was sponsored by Panasonic, Waste Management, Cityplex 12, Applebee’s, Covanta Energy, and Coca-Cola.
