The City of Newark announced that it will host one-stop shops for qualified homeless individuals and families seeking FREE housing, starting today. A list of dates and sites is given below. The services are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

At the one-stop shops, representatives from the Department of Health and Community Wellness will provide applicants and families with on-site medical screening and forms of identification needed to rent one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, and on-site approvals for such applications.

“We are determined to transform and empower the lives of our homeless residents by connecting them with affordable, quality, permanent housing. These one-stop centers will enable many of these residents to do so. We cannot have a prosperous and safe Newark if our residents must live on streets and in homeless shelters, at risk to violence and illness. I commend our Health and Community Wellness team on developing this program, which will help us create ‘Newark 3.0,'” said Mayor Baraka.

All centers will operate from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The dates and sites for the one-stop centers are as follows:

Wednesday, September 2: Penn Station, 1 West Raymond Place

Thursday, September 3: St. James’ Social Services, 604 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard

Friday, September 4: Penn Station, 1 West Raymond Place

Saturday, September 5: Penn Station, 1 West Raymond Place

Sunday, September 9: St. John Baptist Church, 137 Fairmount Avenue
