On September 30th, the University Hospital Foundation hosted its annual Golf Classic at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, New Jersey, successfully raising $400,000 for a new, cutting-edge operating room. This high-tech hybrid operating room, equipped with advanced imaging technology, will enhance surgical precision and reduce the duration of complex procedures. By combining imaging, diagnostics, and surgery in a single space, the new facility will greatly improve patient outcomes.

The event honored Dr. Michael Curi, Chief of Vascular Surgery and Immediate Past Chair of the Foundation, for his commitment to teaching and supporting the Foundation’s mission. Attendees enjoyed a day of golf followed by an evening cocktail reception to celebrate the Foundation’s achievements.

“We are incredibly thankful for the generosity of our Board of Trustees, sponsors, and supporters. Together, we are advancing health equity and ensuring high-quality care for patients who come to University Hospital,” said Jessica Backofen, Chief Development Officer of University Hospital. She added, “Dr. Michael Curi is one of the most talented vascular surgeons and is deeply committed to his patients and medical education.”

John Gilfillan, one of Dr. Curi’s patients, shared his gratitude during the event, saying, “Dr. Curi is brilliant, a maestro of vascular surgery. Thanks to him, I’m able to enjoy life with my grandchildren. His dedication has touched so many lives, and I’m proud to be one of them.”

Since its inception in 2012, the Golf Classic has funded various University Hospital projects, including new ambulances, lobby renovations, and patient assistance programs.

University Hospital’s President and CEO, Ed Jimenez, emphasized the unique role of the hospital as an academic medical center: “It’s not just about the building, it’s about the talent. The doctors, researchers, and trainees make it a special place of discovery, and I see that greatness every day.”

Major sponsors of the event included Shields Healthcare Solutions, O’Conco, and 11:11 Systems, with many others contributing to the event’s success.
