The City of Newark in conjunction with the American Cancer Society will lead the society’s 17th Annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Walk to raise funds to fight breast cancer and increase awareness of the need for early screening and treatment on Sunday, October 19, 2014, at 10 a.m. in Military Park in downtown Newark. To date, the American Cancer Society has funded more than $400 million in breast cancer specific research, more than any other non-government organization. This year’s walk will honor the 101st Anniversary of the American Cancer Society and its fight against cancer.
16,000 people made the walk in 2013 and $375,000.00 was fundraised, with thousands more walkers and fundraising than in previous years.
Registration starts at Military Park at 8 a.m. The walk will begin at 10 a.m.
The walk will begin at Military Park and continue north up Park Place, up to NJPAC, around Military Park and down Broad Street and back, ending back at Military Park on Park Place.
