This year marks the18th annual Newark Arts Festival happening October 10th -13th. This year the festival will honor female artists through its theme ‘Year of The Women’ which will be interpreted through over 450+ participating artists, 20+ participating galleries and pop-ups, and 100+ exhibits and performances.

Here’s a look at the some of the events on the line-up for this year’s festival:

Exclusive first glance access to the Newark Arts Festival spotlight galleries and exhibits. The guided tour will allow for intimate Q&A opportunities with the curators and artists. The 90. min Tour will end at the official NAF Launch Party with live musical performances.

A Call To Peace

Opening October 3, A Call To Peace curated by New Arts Justice (incubator on arts and activism) and Paul Farber of Monument Lab, with a talk on the 11th with Jasmine Wahi, Adrienne Wheeler. The exhibit will run until to Monday, November 11 (Veteran’s Day) in Military Park and Express Newark. four renowned social engaged artists Manuel Acevedo, Chakaia Booker, Sonya Clark, and Jamel Shabazz to respond to Borglum, but more importantly to ponder, “What is a timely monument for Newark?”

A public conversation between Salamishah TilletMayor Ras Baraka, and the new director of the Newark Museum, Linda Harrison on Art, Activism, and Racial Justice.

Wonder Woman Champagne Brunch
One Theatre Square (Across from NJ Performing Arts Center)
A champagne bar and light bites while viewing a Modulation of Women Artists Speak. The exhibition looks at the works of women artists (Incl. Theda Sandiford. work ft. above) via a spectrum of realistic and abstract fine art. Curated by Armisey Smith, this exhibition encourages the audience to interact with these modalities through the lenses and experiences of women artists from diverse walks of life.
SATURDAY OCTOBER 12th // 7-9pm
HEAR HER ROAR
Newark Symphony Hall
A multi-genre performance art collective celebrating the power behind women, directed by NJPAC’s Daryl L. Stewart, with narration by Newark- Native and FX Network star MJ Rodriguez from the Emmy award-winning POSE series.
The Newark Arts Festival was voted ‘Favorite Visual Arts Festival’ in the 2019 JerseyArts.com People’s Choice Awards and each year, the festival puts a spotlight on Newark’s artistic and cultural institutions, featuring both nationally recognized and also emerging, local creatives. Last year the festival grew to 8,000+ attendees!
