This fall, Johnny Depp stars in Black Mass, the true story of Whitey Bulger, the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston. The cast includes Kevin Bacon, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Sienna Miller and Dakota Johnson.
News of this new release was particularly exciting for me as I recall Johnny Depp’s performance alongside Al Pacino in the mob classic Donnie Brasco. In that film, also based on a true story, Depp plays an FBI agent who infiltrated a New York mafia family and takes down a laundry list of top mob bosses. In Black Mass, Depp’s character tells the story of an infamous criminal who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf.
