For the third year in a row, BRICK Education Network and South Ward Promise Neighborhood partnered with Macy’s to host an annual coat giveaway this past Saturday. Approximately 750 winter coats were distributed at the event, as well as hats and gloves, free of charge to Newark’s South Ward families.
“I am so proud that BRICK Education Network and South Ward Promise Neighborhood is once again partnering with Macy’s to provide much-needed relief for South Ward families this winter,” said Dominique Lee, Founder and CEO of BRICK Education Network. “Seeing families leave our pop-up shop with quality coats, hats and gloves is truly heartwarming. This event reinforces South Ward Promise Neighborhood’s commitment to service our community’s needs all year long.”
A Macy’s pop-up shop was set up at Greater Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Newark, and community members had a full retail experience – trying on coats, hats and gloves – to bring home with them at no charge.
“For the past three winters, BRICK Education Network, South Ward Promise Neighborhood and Macy’s have come together to support thousands of South Ward residents by offering a coat giveaway,” said Nichelle Holder, Chief Program Officer, South Ward Promise Neighborhood. “The last three years have been challenging for so many, and it is so important to lift our community up during these difficult times. It has been incredibly fulfilling each year to see families leave our pop-up shop with a new coat to help them through the cold winter months.”
More than 700 community members attended the event. BRICK Education Network and South Ward Promise Neighborhood sponsored and led the coat drive. Coats were purchased from Macy’s at discounted rates.
“Macy’s is committed to giving back to the communities we serve and is proud to partner with South Ward Promise Neighborhood on several events throughout the year,” said Jennifer Harder, Short Hills Macy’s Store Manager. “We are thrilled that so many families in Newark’s South Ward were able to visit our pop-up shop this past weekend and went home with a warm winter coat.”
Free health screenings were also available at the event.
