Mayor Ras J. Baraka and Director of Public Works Khalif Thomas announced today that Newark will launch an accelerated effort to repair streets, clean them, and fill potholes in all five wards in the wake of the prolonged and harsh winter that impacted the city.
“Newark bore the brunt of nature’s fury this past winter, and now that the weather is better, we are quickly accelerating sweeping our streets, filling potholes, and paving more than 30 miles of streets,” Mayor Baraka said.
The schedule for re-paving and pothole repairs is as follows:
- April 9-14 North Ward
- April 16-20 West Ward
- April 23-27 East Ward
- April 30-May 4 South Ward
- May 7-11 Central Ward
- May 14-18 North Ward
- May 21-25 West Ward
- May 28-June 1 East Ward
- June 4-8 South Ward
- June 11-15 Central Ward
During the periods of repair and repaving, there will be no ticketing or towing for alternate side of the street parking. However, residents are asked to cooperate by moving their car at the usual time that their street is swept.
The city is also re-paving 30 miles of streets this year. For more information on that project and pothole repair schedules, visit the city’s website at www.newarknj.gov
