According to a statement on the artist’s Facebook fan page late yesterday evening, “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer,” it said, asking for privacy for the family. Along with influencing artists and genres for decades, Bowie’s hits include Let’s Dance, Space Oddity, Starman, Modern Love, Heroes, Under Pressure, Rebel and Life on Mars.
David Bowie was also well known for creating his flamboyant alter ego, Ziggy Stardust. Bowie had been living in New York in recent years and had released his latest album, entitled “Blackstar” on his birthday this past Friday to high praise in the US and UK.
