For many people in Newark, today is a special day on the calendar. It’s the day that the Newark Downtown District launches their annual Farmers Market at the PSE&G plaza at Raymond Blvd. and Park Pl. For a city that is by and large a food desert, the farmer’s market has become a place where Newarkers can easily access farm-fresh produce as well as natural skin care products and even a simple fresh brewed iced tea on a hot day. Live music greets walkers-by as music fills the fresh spring air serving as a sonic backdrop to shoppers looking for Jersey fresh produce, artisan jewelry, skincare products, spices, accessories, gourmet nuts and dried fruits, Kettle Korn, and more.
