Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District (LPCCD) announced the “HUMANS, Be Kind” 7 Day film Contest, hosted by lead mentor and judge Kay The Kreator, a New Jersey based Cinematographer/DP whose work includes Revolt TV (Jim Jones’ Drip Report), Victory Media (WNBA), Complex Media (The Culture Series: Sickamore), The Wolves by J. Lyones Films, The Gift, a short film by The Olusala Sisters Productions.  Kay is founder of The Gold Standard Productions.

The goal of “HUMANS, Be Kind” campaign, powered by Partners In Health, partners with members of the Newark arts community is to educate, inform and create a space for expression for BIPOC and Latinx/Hispanic communities during the global COVID-19 pandemic.  The 7 Day Film Contest is not for the sleepy heads or faint of heart!  Three teams will be selected from all applicants to create a short narrative film around the themes of COVID-19, vaccinations and how the “new normal” world we live affects communities of color, especially Black Americans, Black Caribbean-Americans, the Latinx Community, Portuguese, Brazilian and Spanish speaking.  This includes survival, hope, overcoming, historical fears, anxiety, social isolation, mental health, trauma, family, friendship, love, human kindness and just…everyday life.  The selection committee includes Kay The Kreator and Newark based writer/director/producer Yucef Mayes, founder, Shine Black Art + Film (Drivers, Zahra and The Oil Man, The Mechanic’s Rose) and actor/director Andrew Binger, co-founder of Yendor Theatre Company.

“I’m excited to serve as lead mentor and judge for Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District’s 7 Day Film Contest.  It’s great way to bring media makers together during a time of upheaval and unite to bring awareness to such an important cause.” says Kay The Kreator, founder of The Gold Standard Productions.

The three competing teams will have 7 days to write, cast, shoot, score, edit and export with titling and credits a narrative short film with a final total running time of at least 10 minutes no more than 20 minutes.  Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District will provide each team with a $300 stipend; mentoring support from Kay The Kreator; produce a screening of the final three films on February 11th with the winning team garnering a grand prize of $1,000.

“As our founding board member the late Amiri Baraka once said ‘the artist’s role is raise the consciousness of the people, to make them understand life’, so it goes with our HUMANS, Be Kind campaign and this film contest.  LPCCD seeks to provide the community with education through the humanities and create conversations around our ‘new normal’ to empower residents to make the informed decisions around vaccinations and general COVID-19 safety,” states Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District executive director Anthony Smith.

Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District and Kay The Kreator will host an information session tomorrow, January 19th at 6pm.  Must register to learn more:  https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZwpc-mrpj0rGdM8SmTV7wPibYsXzI2uTlYx
