Raphael Saadiq — the Grammy Award-winning musician, songwriter, and go-to collaborator/producer for some of the biggest names in R&B, including Solange, John Legend, Mary J. Blige, and D’Angelo — comes to New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 8:00 p.m.

It’s been eight years since GRAMMY Award®-winning musician, songwriter and producer Raphael Saadiq released a solo album. Now, Saadiq is back with Jimmy Lee, his most personal, authentic and uplifting record to date—inspired by his brother’s struggles with addiction.

Saadiq is “a towering figure in the R&B of the last 30 years” (Variety). He started out as a teenage bassist in Sheila E.’s backing band on tour with Prince, then rocketed to stardom with his R&B trio Tony! Toni! Toné!.

With his renowned creative vision and encyclopedic knowledge of pop, Saadiq has long been a go-to collaborator for the biggest names in music, including Solange Knowles, John Legend, Mary J. Blige, D’Angelo, Ne-Yo, Snoop Dogg, Little Dragon, Erykah Badu, Stevie Wonder, Justin Timberlake, Elton John, Mick Jagger and Lady Gaga.

“Like his mentor Prince, Saadiq uses melody and space beautifully over radio-friendly rhythms, slipping between genres with authority and authenticity.”
The Guardian

“Saadiq’s fifth and, quite possibly, strongest solo album still carries threads of the smooth R&B, holistic soul, slithering funk, and early-era rock guitars.”
The Fader
