24 Hours of Peace, the yearly community event held to unite residents against crime and violence will feature none other than Hip Hop legend, Rakim. This year, the event will be held from Friday, August 28, at 6pm to Saturday, August 29, at 6pm, on Clinton Street in the City’s South Ward, between Bergen Street and Osborne Terrace. Newark’s annual 24 Hours of Peace event was formed as an early onset outcry, a collective of government and committed community members who were seeking ways to make not only an event, but to create a long-term process for healing and solutions for thousands of city residents. With character development and conflict resolution at the root of the effort, organizers believe that instilling values and the influence of Hip-Hop culture can be used to cultivate change.

FREE Events at the 24 Hours of Peace will include:
  • A Hip-Hop concert, featuring legendary Hip-Hop MC Rakim and more (African dancers, Jazz, R&B)
  • Speakers & Town Hall Discussions
  • A Bike Ride for Peace
  • Friday Family Flicks movie night
  • A Community Breakfast
  • A Kids Activity Village
  • A Cyber/Technology Village
  • Hip-Hop Yoga & Zumba
  • A Health & Wellness Pavilion, and more!

Activities are geared towards community members of all ages and walks of life. In 2015, organizers have chosen the “Uniting The Human Family”, with the hope of galvanizing citizens through a supportive and safe platform for voicing their frustrations, receiving solutions and advice, and showing love to one another through Hip-Hop music and the arts.

Event partners include HSP Entertainment, 211 Community Impact, GrassROOTS Community Foundation, Believe in Newark, and Giant Thinking, and The Bartendez.
