On Saturday, March 28th, Team Brick City Defeats Cancer (BCDC) will be taking on the stairs of One Gateway in the American Lung Association’s Fight for Air Climb to raise money and awareness for lung health.
Why are we doing this? Residents of Newark have disproportionally high rates of hospitalization and emergency room visits as a result of asthma and there is still no cure. COPD is the third leading cause of death in the United States and there is still no cure. And only 15% of lung cancer cases in NJ are diagnosed early and lung cancer causes more deaths than the next three most common types of cancers combined (colon, breast, and prostate).
American Lung Association in New Jersey Development Manager Krista Collopy is helping lead this effort. “We are really excited to bring lung health education and awareness to the Newark community. Residents and employees in Newark will be climbing 26 flights of stairs to raise funds and awareness for those suffering from lung cancer, COPD, and asthma,” Collopy said.
Our team is open for all to join. If you are a live, work, study, or visit Newark and want to join our team or make a donation, sign up or donate here: http://action.lung.org/goto/brickcity. We can’t wait to welcome you to our team or thank you for your donation. Let’s work together to raise money and awareness to cure lung disease!
Support our team as we do our part to help the American Lung Association find cures and treatments for these and many other lung diseases!
