Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced that he has appointed Sondra D. Roberts as Communications Director beginning on January 6, 2020. In Ms. Roberts’ new role, she will be responsible for communication strategy for the City of Newark and the Mayor, internal and external communications, public and media relations, leading the press information office, and overseeing the City’s television studio (Channel 78).
With nearly 20 years of experience in communication and organizational management, Ms. Roberts most recently served as chief strategist at GLOBALGOOD Public Relations, and managed the New York City operations for Cornell University’s S.C. Johnson College of Business. Ms. Roberts has also worked in entertainment, fashion, non-profit, and on political campaigns.
