On Saturday, Governor Phil Murphy, ordered that the U.S. and New Jersey flags be flown at half-staff at all state buildings and facilities starting immediately, in recognition of the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The flags will remain at half-staff until the date of her interment.“Justice Ginsburg dedicated her life and career not only to the premise of equal justice and equity under the law, but also to the most basic premise that, regardless of gender, or race, or religion, or orientation, or identity, or nationality and ethnic heritage, we all must commit to fight for the things that we care about,” said Governor Murphy. “We have been made a better nation, and a better people, through her reasoned approach and sharp-minded opinions.”
From 1963 to 1972, Ginsburg was a pioneering professor at Rutgers-Newark School of Law, and in her final years at the university, she served as the advisor to the Women’s Rights Law Review.
“The life of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the personification of the progression and the advancement of those that needed her most. The Country mourns the loss of a true pioneer that has strengthened the lives of all Americans. Until her last breath, she fought to advance the morals and conscience of our Country. Her Supreme Court seat is the true definition of our future and is predicated upon our beliefs of basic human rights. We must protect it at all costs.”
