The Nüwork Urban & Cultural Arts Association rallies the community to join the nationwide protests surrounding the recent deliberation in the Michael Brown case. Through a five- part art installation series, Newark residents, artists and activists will be called to share their voices through visual expression utilizing a travelling canvas. NÜCAA will ignite this artistic protests starting December 4th and continue at select venues throughout downtown Newark’s arts district through December 17th.
Local and national artists as well as all of Newark’s leading art galleries and cultural institutions have been invited by the NÜCAA to take part in the art action series and represent the city of Newark. Participants in the events will be encouraged to articulate their feelings using any art medium of their choosing on the provided canvas. The public art event series will feature the visual expression wall at each event over the course of two weeks in December kicking off at the event Evolution Open Mic located at Coffee Cave, 45 Halsey St. on December 4th.
Guests will be welcomed to express themselves on and off canvas, as each installment to the series is casted in a different artistic theme of it’s own. From a poetry reading and open mic, to fashion showcase and forum discussion, NÜCAA wants to ensure that artists of all types present this cause as a unified front. “There are no words to express the negative impact the Mike Brown grand jury decision has reverberated in the city of Newark. The Nüwork Urban & Cultural Arts Association was compelled to break the silence and do a public art action to demonstrate how we as a city stand strong against the injustice our minority youth are facing- it starts with us”.
