Mayor Ras J. Baraka will hold a press conference today to discuss the City of Newark’s Model Neighborhood Plan, a collaborated initiative by multiple city departments and residents to transform neighborhoods into model communities of prosperity.
At the press conference, the Mayor will address the specific measures the City has taken and is planning to take in the first two identified neighborhoods: Clinton Hill in the South Ward and the Lower West Ward. Municipal departments, including Police, Fire, Economic Development, Health and Community Wellness, and Engineering have devised action plans for both neighborhoods and created task forces to identify and address existing quality of life, economic development, health, and public safety issues.
Specific initiatives will include training programs for re-entering offenders, neighborhood revitalization and blight removal, creating “incubators” for small-business entrepreneurs, more intense police deployments in these neighborhoods, neighborhood beautification, increased health and housing safety inspections.
