Last night, Newark Museum of Art hosted their 110th Annual Meeting, reviewing highlights of the past year, outlining plans for the coming year, and recognizing 21 new Membership Fellows. Membership Fellows are those who have supported the museum through their membership for 25 consecutive years.
The museum also recognized the following five people who have been duly nominated for election in the new Class of 2024 Board of Trustees:
- Peter T. Englot
- Curtis A. Johnson
- Megan Myungwon Lee
- Adrienne A. Phillips, MD, MPH
- Eric Fitzgerald Reed
The 2019 year was marked by Linda C. Harrison joining the museum on January 1 as Director and CEO. The museum also took the new name Newark Museum of Art along with a new brand identity. Museum hours have expanded beginning in January for earlier and later accessibility. A new leadership team was established, along with the creation of a Manager of Inclusion position, created for meaningful and sustainable implementation. The museum also announced that the designs and permits have been completed for a new permanent café, called Sketch, opening early this spring.
The feature event for the 110th Annual Meeting was a riveting presentation by Speial Agent Geoff Kelly from the FBI’s Boston Field Office and lead investigator for the Isabella Stewart Gardner case. With 22 years of experience, Agent Kelly has spent the majority of his career investigating violent crime and art theft.
The museum is also currently exhibiting an excellent collection of work from Norman Bluhm entitled Metamorphosis.
