City officials announced today that Newark residents may see discoloration in their water. The discoloration was caused by flushing of water mains by North Jersey District Water Supply. This affects areas served by the North Jersey District Water Supply, which supplies water to the city from the Wanaque Reservoir System.
Please note the water is safe to drink and use. There is no bacterial contamination. Residents are advised to flush the water in their homes for 5-10 minutes to clear out any discoloration.
Discoloration is expected to continue up until this afternoon.
