The City of Newark has partnered with M·A·C Cosmetics to host the Newark Fashion Forward Tour III on Friday, March 31, at 6:30 p.m., at Marbella Lounge, 610 Broadway, in the North Ward.
The Fashion Forward Tour is a traveling fashion show and community event in its first year as a citywide initiative that taps talent and channels artistic expression to celebrate life in Newark and its unique, creative vibe. With each stop on the tour, the entourage of artists and makers expands, enthusiastically arriving on the next venue’s red carpet to showcase that ward’s aspiring models, clothing designers, makeup artists, commentators, masters of ceremonies, local business owners, and other talent. “Newark Fashion Forward Tour III” will arrive in the North Ward with a “March Madness on the Runway” theme. It will also spotlight the city’s LGBTQIA+ community and their contributions to moving the City of Newark forward.
M·A·C Cosmetics will support the event with artists backstage, creating full face makeup looks on all models. M·A·C will also promote its VIVA GLAM initiative which has a mission to support healthy futures and equal rights for all, partnering with organizations supporting women and girls, LGBTQIA+ communities and people living with or affected with HIV/AIDS. Launched in 1994, M·A·C VIVA GLAM has raised over $500 million and supported more than 1,800 organizations, helping 19 million people globally a year.
“Halsey Street’s shop windows give evidence that Newark’s fashionista ambiance is alive and well. Marco Hall, Narciso Rodriguez, and Stephen Burrows, are but a few of a long list of Newark natives who have outfitted luminaries and sewn their name into runway fame,” said Mayor Baraka.
“With the North Ward event promising to draw hundreds of guests, it’s uplifting to watch the Fashion Forward Tour grow bigger and more joyful at each venue. I’m especially happy this event highlights how Newark’s LGBTQIA+ community continually revitalizes our city’s economic, entrepreneurial, and artistic spirit and strengthens our commitment to liberty and democratic ideals. I’m thrilled about the inclusivity of this event and how we are promoting the innovation, imagination, and creativity of fashion trailblazers throughout Newark who literally weave and stitch our city into a brilliant, multi-textured fabric,” the Mayor continued.
“M·A·C has been a purpose-driven brand and we continue to advance this legacy in all that we do. Since M·A·C was founded, we have advocated for people to love who they love and be who they are,” said Rachel Lockett, Vice President, Marketing, M·A·C North America. “We are thrilled to be supporting the Fashion Forward Tour and helping people use makeup to express their authentic identities.”
With a clear message that in Newark, everyone belongs, the event is being produced in conjunction with Vissions Consultants Group, helmed by fashion designer and event planner Vernest C. Moore. Newark Fashion Forward Tour III will be followed by Fashion Show IV in the Central Ward on Friday, May 5, and Fashion Show V in the South Ward on Friday, June 30.
