In an effort to reevaluate its mission and how it can best serve the city, Newark Public Library is considering the development of an Innovation Hub at the Hahne & Co building. In the age of information, fulfilling the library’s essential task as a provider of information must evolve and be augmented as the ability to create and publish content becomes more democratized.
The library’s stated goal is to provide a flexible, 21st century library space that can support the small businesses, entrepreneurs and artists who have always brought energy and economic sustainability to the city of Newark, while creating a revenue stream to keep the library fiscally healthy.
To achieve this, Newark Public library is exploring the creation of a new, contemporary space on Broad Street in the Hahne & Company building. The library believes an Innovation Hub @ Hahne & Co., to be located on the first floor, would enable them to create a targeted approach to providing needed community services. With an Innovation Hub @ Hahne & Co., the library asserts that it will make technology more accessible, provide tools to support innovation and entrepreneurship and offer a selection of current popular books for all ages.
Would you like to provide your input on how you might use such a space? If you live in or spend time in the city, or even visit occasionally, you’re invited to take five minutes to respond to our questions. The library has made the survey available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole.
