On Wednesday, May 20, NJ DEP Commissioner, Catherine McCabe, and Assistant Commissioner for Natural & Historic Resources, Ray Bukowski, will discuss what New Jerseyans and visitors need to know to stay safe and enjoy New Jersey’s parks and other natural resources during and post-COVID-19.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is partnering with New Jersey LCV, Barnegat Branch Rail Trail Alliance, Waterspirit, Musconetcong Watershed Association, Watershed Institute, NJ Audubon, NJ Conservation Foundation, Hunterdon Land Trust, American Littoral Society, Clean Ocean Action, and Pinelands Preservation Alliance.
In April, all county parks and forests in New Jersey were ordered closed indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak. On May 2, the parks were reopened with some caveats, including a 50% capacity limit, a prohibition on picnics or any organized activities, and social distancing requirements. With the Memorial Day holiday weekend approaching, the NJDEP and their environmental partners want to provide guidance on remaining safe and preventing the spread of COVID-19 while having fun.
