The Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey has announced Jazlyn L. Carvajal as the new Executive Director.
Assisting the SHCCNJ for several years, Ms. Carvajal has focused on event coordination, public relations, strategic planning, programming development and oversight, social media exposure, liaison and heading the Hispanic Entrepreneurship Training Program.
Carlos Medina, Chairman of the SHCCNJ said “We are thrilled as Jazlyn has the perfect set of skills and experience to represent the Chamber and best support our business community, ‘our familia.’“
Ms. Carvajal received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and currently serves as President of the MIT Club of Northern New Jersey. In 2014, she was the recipient of the Union City Puerto Rican Woman of the Year award. Ms. Carvajal is a small business co-owner of Stay On Your Daily (SOYD) with partner Ian Marrero, offering clients sharp insight and acumen to aid in business development and scalability strategies. Previously responsible for successfully managing prominent construction projects throughout New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts, Ms. Carvajal is one of the most recognizable women in her industry. Ms. Carvajal first gained notoriety for completing the award-winning $178 million, 375,000 square feet Union City High School with rooftop stadium.
Her passion for her community led her and four other M.I.T. alumni’s to found The Latinas in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Foundation, a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire and empower Latinas to pursue and thrive in STEM fields. As cofounder, she has been at the forefront of reshaping the landscape for STEM interest in urban communities as a whole. She has appeared on Fox News Dallas and Despierta America on Univision promoting the ideals and principles of this powerfully uplifting organization.
