For 50 years, The Chad School Foundation has utilized education to demonstrate that Black people in Newark are best positioned to build community ownership, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Chad now looks to Newark’s next 50 years and remains dedicated to further building community wealth through education. In keeping with this commitment to Newark, The Chad School Foundation is collaborating with partner, TandemEd, to launch Own Your Story Newark, a future-facing initiative, committed to sustainable community development, that is led by community efforts.

Own Your Story Newark is built on leveraging the power of storytelling in order to unite Black neighborhoods in Newark around healthy perspectives and positive narratives that will encourage self-reliance and uplift all of Newark’s residents.

Eric Stevenson, Executive Director of the Chad School Foundation, shared that during its initial phase, Own Your Story Newark will facilitate a platform for Black residents to be seen, heard, and more importantly, respected. A virtual community meeting open to the people of Newark will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at 6pm.

“Chad’s long-standing legacy of championing culturally relevant education in the Black community is unprecedented in the history of Newark, and our work stands as a testament of community empowerment. Own Your Story Newark will serve as a necessary call to action. The Chad School Foundation is a trusted community asset, and we are honored to anchor this important initiative and work with local community stakeholders, and our national partner TandemEd, to ensure Own Your Story Newark is an authentic reflection of the perspective of Black voices in Newark,” said Eric Stevenson, Executive Director, The Chad School Foundation.
