In honor of Global Running Day on June 2nd, United Way of Greater Newark (UWGN) hosted its second Virtual 5K Run in a global effort to encourage wellness and strengthen the community one year after the start of the Coronavirus pandemic. A portion of the proceeds will support UWGN’s education pillar, Newark Thrives!, and provide grants to select providers who are developing learning initiatives in Newark this summer. These programs will focus on art, STEAM, college readiness, mentoring, and sports & recreation.
“While many are vaccinated and the end of the pandemic is in sight, members of our community are still facing significant hardships,”said Catherine Wilson, President & CEO of UWGN. “During these times, it is important that we continue supporting one another and finding new ways to defy the distance that has been created between us over the course of the last year. Our Annual 5K Run is an important way to maintain that connection with one another and fundraise for an important cause. We’re grateful for our partners, participants, and all of those who made our virtual event possible.”
This event was sponsored by Deloitte, M&T Bank, Horizon, WellCare, Amerigroup, Columbia Bank Foundation, and Panasonic.
