New Jersey Performing Arts Center presents iconic trombonist, vocalist and composer, Willie Colon for La Rumba Del Siglo on Saturday, April 6th, 2019 at 8 P.M.
At the age of 15, Willie Colón was already signed to the legendary Fania Records, and by 17 he recorded his first album. During the more than five-decade career that’s followed, Colón has recorded 40 albums and sold more than 30 million records worldwide, producing hits like “Che Che Colé,” “Calle Luna, Calle Sol,” “’El Día de Suerte,” “La Murga,” “Aguanile,” and many more.
One of the most durable salsa artists of his generation, Colón’s inventive music often utilizes elements of jazz and rock, and freely incorporates rhythmic traditions from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and from throughout the Africa diaspora. He has also collaborated with many of the world’s top salsa artists, including Ismael Miranda, Celia Cruz and Rubén Blades. Colón is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY Award from the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, and in 2015 was classified as one of the “30 Most Influential Latin Artists of All Time” by Billboard.
“A live appearance from Willie Colón is indeed an event – he absolutely deserves his reputation as one of the most influential musicians in his field,” says The Chicago Reader. “He can still light any stage on fire with his trombone, lead vocals and a catalog of hit songs,” writes The Miami Herald.
Tickets to see WILLIE COLON will be available on Friday, November 30th at 10 a.m. at NJPAC.org or 888.GO.NJPAC (888.466.5722) or by visiting the NJPAC Box Office.
