The Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District (LPCCD) has announced the 3rd Annual “YOGI FEST by TY DAYE,” Newark’s first-ever yoga-centric festival. The event will take place in Lincoln Park during the State of New Jersey’s North To Shore week. Founded by Newark native Ty Daye and led by Black Yogi practitioners, “YOGI FEST by TY DAYE” welcomes beginners and experienced participants of all ages and ethnicities. The festival features yoga sessions, healthy eating education, vendors, fitness activities, music, and zen.
Ty Daye, a Certified Life Coach, HIIT Trainer, Meditation & Reiki Practitioner, is Newark’s first Black male yoga instructor. He continues to achieve multiple certifications. Daye’s passion is to raise awareness about fitness, healing, and mental health within the Black community. “I started ‘YOGI FEST by TY DAYE’ because of my own spiritual and mental journey. It was important to me to heighten awareness in Newark, a largely Black and Brown community with increased health risks due to lack of exercise and fresh food access,” states Ty Daye.
Daye integrates his practices through the Newark Public School system and community events. His involvement includes 24 Hours of Peace in 2022, Seton Hall University’s Pretty OWT Yoga in 2024, Essex County’s Branch Brook Park, Newark City Parks, NJPAC Movement In The Park, and Newark Council President McIver’s Back Together Again event in 2021. Daye aims to uplift future leaders through holistic practices, especially men of color, by breaking generational curses and promoting education, healing, and movement.
For LPCCD’s Executive Director Anthony Smith, partnering with Ty Daye was a natural fit. “I’ve known the Daye family for over 15 years. Ty Daye has served the community in various roles, and his creation of Newark’s first yoga festival aligns with our mission to increase usage of community green space and culturally relevant wellness programming,” says Smith.
Powered by North To Shore 2024, “YOGI FEST by TY DAYE” is produced in partnership with LPCCD as part of its 19th annual Lincoln Park Music Festival season. The event will feature a main Wellness Stage hosted by Ty Daye and facilitated by yoga practitioners, with musical interludes by DJ MPURE and performances by Newark’s poets and vocalists.
The new Lifestyle Stage will host cooking demonstrations by healthy culinary experts, including actor Tobias Truvillion, Chef Sean Hassan, and Chef Kenny Minor. The day will culminate with performances programmed by the Lincoln Park Music Festival.
“YOGI FEST by TY DAYE” is a free event, but attendees must check in on-site. Advance registration is strongly encouraged to save time and receive updates: bit.ly/YOGIFESTbyTYDAYE2024.
