Local athletes, community members, firefighters, and more participated in Climb For A Cure, a “vertical road race” at the One Gateway Building this past Saturday, to help improve the lives of New Jersey residents currently living with chronic lung diseases. Proceeds support the mission of the American Lung Association: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.

This year, the American Lung Association’s goal is to raise $50,000 for lung disease prevention, research and advocacy programs. Over 50 firefighters took the challenge climbing the 26 flights of stairs in full gear. The Newark Fire Department gave its full support, even honoring a 10-year-old climber, Talcon Falcone, as Deputy Fire Chief for the weekend. Talcon climbed the 26 flights in 2:48 in honor of his mom who lost her battle to lung cancer 6 years ago.
