This April, as Newark’s world-famous cherry blossoms reach their peak, Have You Met Newark Tours is inviting residents and visitors to go behind the scenes of the nation’s first county park. In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Bloomfest, the tour company is offering a series of immersive historical walking tours through the Southern Division of Branch Brook Park.
A Journey Through the Southern Division
Each 1.5-mile vigorous walk explores the Frederick Law Olmsted-designed landscape, offering deep dives into the landmarks that define the area. Expert guides will share the hidden histories of:
• The Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart: One of the largest Gothic cathedrals in North America.
• The I-280 Highway Construction: How modern infrastructure reshaped the historic park.
• Barringer High School: The third-oldest public high school in the United States.
• The 5,000 Trees: The fascinating story of how Newark came to house more cherry blossom trees than Washington D.C.

Celebrating 14 Years of Urban Exploration
Have You Met Newark, now celebrating its 14th year in operation, designed this event to showcase the park as a premier regional amenity. “Participants will get behind-the-scenes peeks at often overlooked sections of the park,” the company noted, emphasizing that the tour is perfect for both first-time visitors and lifelong Newarkers.
