The Newark Public Library will celebrate another year of service to the Newark community of families, scholars, innovators, community-based organizations, and corporate residents on Thursday, November 21 at Nanina’s In The Park.

In the past few years, under the leadership of Jeffrey Trzeciak, the Newark Public Library has elevated its offerings to the community at the seven community branches, the main library, and off-site throughout the community.  The spectrum of programming has spanned from free dance parties throughout the summer, know as the Friday Library Music Sessions with DWILD Music Radio, Hot Cuban night with live music, hand-rolled cigars from Jimenez Tobacco, and Drag Queen Story Hour with Harmonica Sunbeam.

3rd grade students from Elliot Street School received their Newark Public Library cards to launch the initiative giving 45,000 Newark students and educators library cards.

The past year has also seen the grand opening of the new James Brown African-American Room, a Whodunnit Mystery Dinner, the grand opening of the Newark LGBT Community Center, and the partnership with Newark Public Schools for Library Card Sign-up Month to provide library cards to approximately 45,000 Newark Public School students and educators.

This year, the gala celebration will honor corporate partner Panasonic, community organization La Casa de Don Pedro, as well as Victor Alves, CEO of 24horas and poet, artist, and educator Jasmine Mans.

The evening will begin with a cocktail reception followed by the dinner and awards program.  Not to be forgotten is the afterparty event to close the night.  To attend the Booked For The Evening gala or place an ad in the gala journal, contact Kirsten Giardi or visit npl.org/gala2019.
