SJ Presents: the Godmother of Soul and Neo-Classic Soul, the icon ERYKAH BADU with 2x Grammy-winner and this year’s hottest new artist H.E.R. on Saturday, May 11 at 8pm at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Erykah Badu, Grammy-winning, neo-soul sensation (“On & On,” “Next Lifetime,” “Didn’t Cha Know”) brings her distinctive style to Barclay’s Center for a special Mother’s Day Celebration. Since the release of her acclaimed 1997 debut, Baduizm, singer-songwriter Erykah Badu has remained one of the most distinctive artists in contemporary R&B and a major force in the neo-soul movement. Propelled by the lead single “On & On,” Baduizm became a triple-platinum best-seller and went on to win two GRAMMY Awards, for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Album.

Badu continued to refine her rich mix of soul, funk, jazz and organic hip-hop on her subsequent albums – 1997’s double-platinum Live (which included the No. 1 megahit “Tyrone”), 2000’s Mama’s Gun (which included another hit single, “Bag Lady”), Worldwide Underground, and her two-part New Amerykah project, the first installment of which was named “one of the year’s best albums” by Rolling Stone in 2008.

Today, Badu’s groundbreaking music continues to meld “traditional soul vocals, staccato hip-hop rhythms, and laid-back jazzy grooves,” says The New York Times. “It has been 20 years since her debut album received great acclaim and two Grammys, with songs like ‘On and On’ continue to resonate with a new audience.”

H.E.R.

Joining Erykah Badu on stage it’s 2x Grammy Winner and R&B’s most fascinating new voice, H.E.R.   Within an incredible year and half, H.E.R. is the most anticipated new artist to see since her release of two remarkable EP’s. She made her first U.S. television debut, sold out her first ever North American and international headlining “The Lights On Tour” in seconds, joined Bryson Tiller on his 25+ city North American “SET IT OFF TOUR,” performed at the BET Experience concert series and most recently at Coachella. In short, the enigmatic singer/songwriter, selected as one of iHEART’s “On The Verge” artist this year, has established herself as one of modern R&B’s most fascinating new voices—an artist with a keen skill for channeling the pain and ecstasy of life through a variety of sonic moods. “I’ve learned a lot about myself, but it’s still surreal to me,” said H.E.R.
