Trying to spend your money with small businesses this holiday season but don’t know where to go? On December 21st from 12-3PM, the Holiday Shop Hop will connect last-minute shoppers in Newark with 10+ local entrepreneurs via a fun, informative guided experience.

This hot chocolate and sweets-fueled trek through Newark’s downtown business district will include a curated, guided shopping experience, a Shop Newark tote, a Have You Met Newark T-Shirt, a warm drink, and small bites along the route! The event will provide the opportunity for guests to connect with local entrepreneurs and owners and features products ranging from terrariums to wine totes to custom clothes.

Have You Met Newark Tours, a company that has been running tours in Newark for 7 years, will lead the experience and leaders from Shop Newark will join to provide information on the Shop Newark property tax reward program and participating Shop Newark businesses.

The event is sponsored by the Greater Newark Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Ironbound Business Improvement District, Shop Newark, and Invest Newark

“It just made sense to partner with Have You Met Newark for the Holiday Shop Hop this year to bring shoppers physically into some of our incredible participating businesses,” said Karen Brown Stovell, Executive Director of Forward Ever Sustainable Business Alliance, the organization that manages Shop Newark.

Lynette Lashawn and Anita Dickens, founders of Off the Hanger and ANE Clothier respectively shared, “We are excited to participate in the Holiday Shop Hop. As Newark residents and business owners we value events that encourage individuals to spend their money at home. We’ve created a cutting-edge experience in our studio that encourages visitors to shop for their homes and wardrobes simultaneously and we love welcoming people into this space.”

Seth Grossman, Executive Director of the Ironbound Business Improvement District (IBID) noted the IBID organized a similar event in November to highlight shopping opportunities in the Ironbound neighborhood which is often noted for its food but also hosts great stores. “There is nothing like meeting the business owners, touching the materials, or tasting the products to form a connection. We hope individuals on the Shop Hop find new shopping destinations and make shopping in Newark and shopping and dining in the Ironbound a tradition at the holidays and all year round.”

The Holiday Shop Hop will begin at the Greater Newark Convention & Visitors Bureau and end a short walk away at Divino Tasting Room in Teachers Village. The experience will involve short walks between businesses. Participants will also be provided takeaway with information on all businesses participating in the Shop Newark program across Newark.
