Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Senior Citizen’s Affairs Manager Bessie Walker, and members of the Newark Municipal Council will swear in the members of the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women on Monday, March 2, 2015, at 6 p.m., in the Municipal Council Chamber, at City Hall. The Commission will consist of 33 women, all leaders in a variety of fields.
The Mayor will address equal opportunity issues in his remarks during the swearing-in. The Commission’s purpose is to advise the Mayor on issues affecting women, and improve their status through networking, advocacy, reviewing and recommending policies and legislation affecting women. It will hold hearings, study needs, capabilities, and concerns of women, and promote the expansion of rights and opportunities available to women.
The swearing-in ceremony will kick off the City’s observances of Women’s History Month.
