The maternity unit at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is now a 34-bed private room Women’s Health Unit.  The unit has been completely renovated to provide every family with a private room, equipped with Wi-Fi access, lounge chairs and a private bathroom. The renovation includes the addition of 13 new spacious suites.

“We are committed to ensuring that mothers and their newborns receive excellent medical care in an environment that fosters their well-being. This new unit is just one of the many ways we meet the evolving needs of our new families and help them get off to a healthy start in life,” said Darrell K. Terry, Sr., President and Chief Executive Officer, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey.

More than 3,000 babies are born at Newark Beth Israel each year. These newborns and their families have access to  premier health care services at the Children’s Hospital of New Jersey including prenatal, neonatal and pediatric care and a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

New mothers will now benefit from one-on-one lactation consultations in the new private rooms as well as education on how to care for their babies after discharge.  The Women’s Health Unit will also offer families a special congratulatory dinner the night before discharge and a congratulatory cake to help them continue the celebration at home with family and friends.
