Newark’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program funds will pay for up to twelve months of past-due rent and up to three months of prospective rent, on a case by case basis, if applicable. Tenants and landlords can receive help in English, Spanish, or Portuguese by calling (866)484-9033, Monday through Friday, 9am-6pm.

Tenant application and landlord pre-registration closes on September 10th at 6pm. You can apply for Mayor Baraka’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program online at https://newarkcovid19.com/programs/emergency-rent-grants.
To qualify, you and/or your household must meet all of the following:
- Be a Newark resident,
- Have a 2020 household income at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) in the City of Newark
- One or more members of your household qualifies for unemployment benefits or experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, or experienced other financial hardship due directly or indirectly to COVID-19
- One or more members of your household can demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability
- Be currently responsible for paying rent at your primary residence
