As the massive, month-long North to Shore Festival gears up to dominate New Jersey’s cultural landscape, a groundbreaking partnership is ensuring that the music remains fundamentally accessible to the people who form the heartbeat of the Brick City.

Airbnb, an official sponsor of the monumental summer arts festival, announced a major initiative to donate mainstage concert tickets directly to multiple Newark-based grassroots nonprofit organizations. Working in direct alignment with the City of Newark and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), the global hospitality platform will distribute tickets to elite headlining concerts across the state, including shows in Newark, Asbury Park, and Freehold.

The ticket giveaway will grant local community members access to a dazzling array of superstar performers, including genre-bending icon Janelle Monáe, bluegrass legends Alison Krauss & Union Station, comedy heavyweights Marc Maron and Iliza Shlesinger, blues-rock virtuoso Joe Bonamassa, indie-rock staple Kurt Vile & The Violators, and indie-folk giants The Head and The Heart.

Rooting Global Entertainment in Local Belonging

For Airbnb, the ticketing initiative represents a core alignment with its corporate mission of inclusion.
“Airbnb was built on the idea that everyone deserves to feel like they belong,” stated Alain Xiong-Calmes, Airbnb Public Policy Manager. “And we’re proud to help make that real this summer in Newark. Great music should be for everyone, and this summer, it will be. We’re grateful to partner with Mayor Baraka and local community organizations for helping us get these tickets to the people who make this city so special.”

The tickets will be dispersed to the frontlines of Newark’s neighborhood advocacy groups. Among the prominent local nonprofits selected to receive and distribute the ticket inventory are:

The Ironbound Community Corporation (ICC): Driving environmental and social equity in the East Ward.

La Casa de Don Pedro: Newark’s premier Latinx-led community development powerhouse.

Clinton Hill Community Action (CHCA): Championing housing and economic development in the South Ward.

Community Safe Zone: Working on grassroots youth advocacy and community safety.

Newark Alliance: Driving economic vitality and corporate-civic alignment citywide.

A Unified Front at City Hall and NJPAC

Mayor Ras J. Baraka offered high praise for the initiative, noting that true civic revitalization requires ensuring that local residents can actively participate in the premier spaces of their own city.

“We’re so pleased that Airbnb is not only making these concerts possible as a North to Shore Festival sponsor but also doing their part to ensure that everyone in our community has access to the incredible performances that will light up our city’s beautiful stages,” said Mayor Baraka.

The donation lands during an unprecedented summer. Produced by NJPAC, the fourth annual North to Shore Festival has been heavily expanded and rebranded this year as “North to Shore Festival Welcomes the World.” In a massive calendar shift, the festival was extended by more than two weeks to intentionally align the celebration of Garden State creativity with the global passion surrounding the FIFA World Cup 2026™ festivities moving through the region.

A Once-in-a-Generation Summer

Running through July 19, the expanded festival footprint blends world-class musical acts with local sports tournaments, interactive workshops, and high-energy watch parties celebrating the intersection of international soccer culture and American art.

“This kind of moment — when the arts and sports come together like this — happens once in a generation. And we don’t want anyone in our community to miss it,” explained Dr. Sherri-Ann Butterfield, Senior Vice President of Social Impact at NJPAC.

By bypassing traditional gatekeepers and funneling access straight to the neighborhood level, the alliance between Airbnb, NJPAC, and City Hall ensures that the North to Shore Festival remains exactly what it was always intended to be: a celebration by New Jerseyans, for New Jerseyans.
