Newark Beth Israel Medical Center announces the return of The Beth Greenhouse Farmers Market. Following a brief hiatus during the height of the coronavirus pandemic in New Jersey, the Greenhouse is re-opening its doors and will now operate the market, on the corner of Osborne Terrace and Lehigh Avenue, where the produce is grown.
The Farmers Market will resume normal business hours, every Thursday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Customers may notice that precautions have been implemented to keep shoppers and employees safe, most notably the move to an outdoor location at The Beth Greenhouse, right where the fresh greens are grown and harvested. In addition, face coverings and social distancing are required, and special disinfecting guidelines are being utilized throughout the Greenhouse.
The Beth Greenhouse, which opened in 2016, grows produce hydroponically year round and is one of the wellness programs at Newark Beth Israel offering affordable healthy food options and healthy lifestyle classes for the community.
On any given week, farm fresh produce often includes fresh greens, onions, apples, green cabbage, cauliflower, yellow squash, basil, Tuscan kale, collard greens, lettuces, spinach, mesclun mix, and herbs from local partners. Shoppers can double their NJ SNAP and Garden State Good Food Network dollars and also use their WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Vouchers for purchases.
Also new this year is online ordering, through a partnership with Urban Agriculture Cooperative of Newark. Items ordered by 5:30 p.m. on Mondays will be ready for pick-up at the Beth Greenhouse Farmers Market on Thursdays.
