Greenwood Gardens, the stunning 28-acre formal garden located in Short Hills, New Jersey, is celebrating 20 years as a non-profit organization. The gardens welcome the public seasonally from May to November, thanks to the clear vision of the garden’s Co-founders, the late Peter P. Blanchard III, and his wife Sofia.  The Blanchards incorporated the organization as a non-profit in 2003 with the mission of connecting people with nature in a historic garden oasis. Prior to 2003, the property served as a private estate for nearly 80 years.

The garden will open for the season on May 5, 2023. Against the unique backdrop created by this 1920’s Italianate garden, graced by terraces, woodlands, grottoes, fountains, Arts and Crafts follies, winding paths, sculptures, colorful urns, and ornate iron gates, Greenwood will offer an impressive lineup of more than 45 programs throughout the season, including illuminating guided tours, creative arts and en plein air painting days, fascinating lectures, and evening concerts in the garden.  In addition to taking advantage of these special offerings, visitors may also stroll through the garden at their own pace.

“We intend to make this a year to remember and look forward to celebrating two decades of sharing nature, beauty, and history with the public,” said Abby O’Neill, Executive Director of Greenwood. “I recommend that visitors register early, as many programs sell out quickly.”

Visitors to the garden will also enjoy a variety of surprise pop-up events that will be available during this milestone year.  Guided tours, storytime in the garden, art events, and more will provide delightful experiences that are complimentary with admission.

Greenwood Gardens will be open to the public Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from May 5 through November 4 between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Entry is by vehicle only; advance registration is strongly recommended.
