RWJBarnabas Health, in collaboration with the New Jersey Devils, announced the 3rd Annual RWJBarnabas Health “Running with the Devils 5K Run and Walk” will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Essex County’s South Mountain Recreation Complex. Registration is now open at rwjbh.org/runningwiththedevils.

This event supports the commitment of both RWJBarnabas Health and the New Jersey Devils to build healthier communities by promoting healthy, active lifestyles and world-class healthcare. Proceeds from the charitable race and day of family-friendly fun will benefit the programs and services of RWJBarnabas Health and its local facilities.

Exciting fundraising incentives are being offered for both individuals and groups, highlighted by tickets to New Jersey Devils games and concerts at Prudential Center. The top individual fundraiser will receive four (4) club seat tickets to a regular season New Jersey Devils game (black-out dates apply) and a VIP experience, including a photo-op at center ice. The top fundraising group/team will receive a skating party for 75-100 people at the RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House.  Full details on fundraising incentives are on the race website at www.rwjbh.org/runningwiththedevils.

New this year, NJ Devil, the popular mascot for the New Jersey Devils has challenged fellow New Jersey mascots to a race to kick-off the festivities. The initial line-up of participating mascots, who will compete alongside NJ in an obstacle course race prior to the start of the 5K, includes the Rutgers Scarlet Knight, Seton Hall’s Pirate, Sparkee from the Somerset Patriots, the Princeton Tiger, the Monmouth Hawk and Myrtle the Turtle from Turtle Back Zoo. The full-line up of mascots will be revealed closer to race day.

The day will feature a competitive 5K race on a USATF Certified Course, through the picturesque South Mountain Reservation followed by a family fun walk, also through the Reservation. Additional activities include interactive games located in Start Village, music and the opportunity to meet New Jersey Devils Alumni. Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. will serve as Honorary Chairman of the event.

“In collaboration with the New Jersey Devils and Essex County, this event aligns perfectly with our mission, and it’s fantastic to see so many individuals come together to support the health and well-being of the communities we serve,” said Barry H. Ostrowsky, President and Chief Executive Officer at RWJBarnabas Health.

The 5K race will begin at 9 a.m. ET and will be followed immediately by the family fun walk. Registration for the 5K is $30 ($25 fee for USATF members). Participant medals will also be given to all runners. Awards for the 5K Run will be presented to the top male and female finishers overall as well as in various age groups.
