As cold weather and temperature fluctuations often lead to increased energy use and higher bills, PSE&G reminds customers that the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is accepting applications for financial assistance with heating and cooling costs. The LIHEAP program is run by the State of New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.

“There are several annual programs available to assist those who struggle to pay their utility bills. In particular, we encourage low income families to get help by applying now for LIHEAP,” said Greg Dunlap, PSE&G vice president of customer operations. “Under LIHEAP, those who qualify may receive an average of $300 toward their heating bills and $200 toward medically-necessary cooling costs.”

LIHEAP eligibility is based solely on last month’s household gross income and household size. To be eligible for LIHEAP benefits, the applicant’s household gross income must meet monthly income guidelines listed on the chart below. For example, a family of four with an income of $4,184 or less per month may be eligible and should apply.
