The Dfree Global Foundation, Inc. has launched an ambitious economic empowerment campaign, “Newark Women Moving Forward,” aimed at uplifting up to 1,000 women in Newark. Under the guidance of Newark’s First Lady, Mrs. Linda J. Baraka, this initiative is set to provide a comprehensive financial education program designed to free participants from the burdens of debt and limited financial knowledge.

This program is a crucial part of the dfree® Financial Freedom Movement, which has been at the forefront of leading the African American community toward financial independence. By partnering with local churches, community organizations, and women’s groups, the campaign seeks to instill sustainable financial habits among Newark’s women.

Mission and Vision

The dfree® Financial Freedom Movement’s mission is to foster a lifestyle of financial independence through value-based principles and practical financial management strategies. It envisions leading an economic and cultural shift that enhances consumer engagement in savings, insurance, and investments.

Core Principles

The initiative emphasizes the “D’s” of the dfree® movement, guiding participants towards freedom from debt, delinquency, and deficits while promoting the establishment of deposits, dividends, and deeds. This holistic approach addresses not just the financial aspects but also the emotional and psychological factors affecting individuals’ relationships with money.

Philosophy and Background

Combining faith with financial principles, the dfree® lifestyle offers strategies for behavioral transformation. Created in 2005 by DeForest B. Soaries, Jr., the movement challenges the prevailing culture of consumer debt through a comprehensive approach that addresses the root causes of financial issues. It aims to improve the financial well-being of individuals, families, and communities by fostering a determined mindset to overcome debt and achieve financial freedom.

The movement’s impact was highlighted in the CNN documentary “Almighty Debt,” hosted by Soledad O’Brien in 2010. The documentary, which focused on the economic crisis’s impact on the African American faith community, became one of CNN’s most-watched documentaries at the time of its airing.

“Newark Women Moving Forward” represents a significant step towards realizing the dfree® movement’s vision. It not only aims to educate but also to empower Newark’s women to take control of their financial futures, leading to a stronger, more economically independent community.
