The New Jersey Devils are set to host their annual Black History Celebration Night on February 6, 2024. This special event, coinciding with the team’s game against the Colorado Avalanche at the Prudential Center, will mark the club’s fourth Hockey Is for Everyone game of the season. In partnership with PeduL, the celebration will feature custom-designed jerseys and a range of in-game branding and activations.

The first 9,000 fans in attendance will receive a mini helmet courtesy of Prudential. The custom jerseys, designed by Jersey City’s Doune Clermont, pay homage to unsung heroes in the Black community. Doune, inspired by Black female artists and traditional Haitian paintings, crafted the jersey to honor everyday individuals who have inspired Black leaders.

“The portrayed figures include grandmothers, siblings, parents, and ministers who played significant roles in the lives of Black leaders,” said Clermont. The jersey’s colors – red, black, and green – symbolize the resilience, heritage, and fertility of the land, weaving a narrative of Black history.

The jerseys will be available for players during arrivals and will be auctioned from February 6 to 13. Proceeds will benefit Newark Emergency Services for Families. Fans can bid at newjerseydevils.com/auction.

PeduL, featured as the helmet brand for Devils road games, has been supported by Prudential Financial. Chisa Egbelu, CEO and Co-Founder of PeduL, will be prominently featured during the night, including in interviews and on the MSG pregame show. “This evening symbolizes hope and inspiration for startups in our community,” said Egbelu. “We are proud to partner with the New Jersey Devils and Prudential.”

Fans will be able to enter to win a team-signed helmet by scanning a QR code. The winner will be announced in-game alongside Chisa and Prudential representatives.

The night will also include a shadowing program with Barringer High School students experiencing roles in Corporate Partnerships Activation and Game Presentation. Additionally, 140 youths from community groups will be hosted by the Devils, courtesy of Prudential.

Proceeds from the night’s 50/50 will go to Kismet of Kings, a nonprofit organization in Jersey City dedicated to empowering Black and Brown male students.
