“It’s so good, loving somebody when somebody loves you back…”

…and to do so genuinely and sweetly.

On that now-infamous Saturday night, Hip-hop pioneer and Legendary DJ D-Nice opened his nine-hour marathon party dubbed #Homechool at the hottest spot in the world, #ClubQuarantine – and this time we all got in.  The call that the jam was live on Instagram flew across the globe, and no matter what you were doing or where you were, with just a few taps of your fingertip, you were transported in.

We each designed our own dance floor and our own moves, and yes, we were all cool.  People showed up from across the globe, and we were all electrified: from Mayor Ras Baraka to Mark Zuckerberg, from Evita Robinson to Quincy Jones, and from Alexandra Hill to Janet Jackson.  D-Nice invited us into his home with the poise, grace, and excitement of the coolest party-giver on the block.

It appeared as a gift to our bodies, souls, and minds: ones aching for a salve at this most provocative and tenuous crossroads. A balm of joy, love, and peace.  A gift that brought freedom, the kind only music can evoke.  It was epic at the moment: an extraordinary existential experience that each of us in the virtual space of social media found ourselves entwined with the other.  We existed together, unbroken and unbridled; exploding into a more exceptional possibility of us.  If you were in #ClubQuarantine, you lived in no other place or time, and you wanted to exist in no other place or time.  His musical selections evoked memories in our bodies and minds but in the full display of his own ability to be fully present and connected to his personal existential experience.  In that virtual space, we were reminded that as human beings, we cannot exist without social connections and contacts.

As the numbers climbed, the beats killed, and his body swayed into a mesmerizing rhythm.  In his words, “It’s the biggest party in the world, this is crazy!!!!”.  At the stroke of midnight, as well as the 103,000 viewership mark, he broke out “All I do Is Win” by DJ Khaled and bounced into the air, and so did all the dancers in #ClubQuarantine.  His infectious love and awe at our staying power on the dance floor were matched by our enduring respect and reverence for him at that moment.  We are still feeling the love, still swaying to the beats, and still flying high.

In #ClubQuarantine, we bore witness to a yearning and aching to live in a place of joy. In so doing, we are obligated to reimagine tomorrow.  A gentleman and humanitarian held the joy of the world at his fingertips as he spun us, all, into bliss.  #ClubQuarantine is open…
